The problem lies in the first frames of the file, which for some reason annoy the PS3 for the whole movie. Here's how to fix it quickly and easily: Open the file with Virtualdub and delete the first segment until the 2nd video keyframe, i.e.: select frame 0 as starting marker, find the 2nd key frame with SHIFT+RIGHT, select it as end marker, then delete selection. You're just cuting part of the opening credits / production logo etc. so the movie is just fine. Save the file as AVI, but be sure to first select Direct stream copy in the video menu, so you won't re-encode the whole movie. Voila! The audio and video is great on the computer but the audio through the PS3 is totally garbled, completely useless. I know I can run the file through a conversion program such as handbrake and that will fix my audio problem (i've done this in the past) but I'd rather not due to reduced quality from lossy compression.
