There is some cropping going on, e.g. when we first see Vulcan, the caption "Vulcan" is mostly cut off, you only see the bottom part of the "N". Also, when Spock comes on the bridge near the end and asks to be promoted to second in command, and offers to provide "character references" his head is cut off. Still, you can see what's going on plenty well until a better copy comes around. Can't believe this hit the Net back in May. Also there's a burned-in caption at one point, in Russian. There's a .ru in there, so I'm guessing the site it came from. Video quality takes a hit for being a cam, but it was shot with an HD cam. Solid 7/10, at least 6, but not quite 8. Sound is good but not quite clear, it's a solid 8/10. The movie of course is damn good. Many thanks and much respect. Will seed to a good ratio. But then again if all you want is the story then I highly recommend the book. You get ALL of the story and the visualizations are as good as your imagination. I may not have been fair about the quality though... I normally avoid versions shot from a theater screen, so this may be good quality for that type of video. It is easy to see that the screen has been cropped and that not all of the picture is visible. I decided to delete and wait for the DVD release, but to each his own. Cheers! A/4 V/4 Do not call camera bootlegs telesyncs they are entirely different know your shit before you spew it Telesync is one of many terms used by movie bootleggers to describe the source material used to make bootlegged copies, normally distributed in Video CD, SVCD, DVD or DivX/Xvid format. It is commonly abbreviated “TS”. *A TS is a video copy of the movie which was shot in a movie theater, often with a professional camera on a tripod in the projection booth, with a direct connection to the sound source* (often an FM-band microbroadcast provided for the hearing-impaired, or from a drive-in theater). However, the true definition of Telesync would include the film being syncronised to the camera's own frame capture rate (FPS) and shutter timing as done by television companies when preparing cellulose film for broadcast. Bootleg TS rarely, if ever, utilise this form of syncronisation which can lead to additional temporal aliasing. A CAM is a video copy of a movie usually shot with a hand-held camera from a seat in the auditorium and uses the camera's own built-in microphone to pick up the sound. Usually, the quality is quite poor. A TS can be considered a higher quality type of CAM, that has the potential of better-quality audio and video. As technology gets better, the quality of the telesyncs also gets better, though it should be noted that even the best telesyncs are lossy and will be inferior in quality to direct rips from BD, DVD or digital transfers from the film itself (see telecine). Although very few at the moment, some release groups use high-definition video cameras to get the clearest picture possible. *Telecine is the process of transferring motion picture film into video form. The term is also used to refer to the equipment used in the process.* Telecine enables a motion picture, captured originally on film, to be viewed with standard video equipment, such as televisions, video cassette decks or computers. This allows producers and distributors working in film to release their products on video and allows producers to use video production equipment to complete their film projects. But why not use the general codecs to encode the video ? The reason? It's very simple: It doesn't work on my tv (it has usb/wifi conection), it doesn't work on my smartphone, it's a pain in the ass to find a codec that can be trusted :( :( :( :( :( 1.4GB should be also good on DivX or MPEG or xVid .........
